npower & Newcastle MP Chi Onwurah – PR Photography

npower001PR Photography

I visited local resident Wendy Carrell to carry out a bit of PR photography for npower and Labour politician Chi Onwurah to help spread the word about npower’s Health Through Warmth (HTW) scheme and how it works with local organisations and charities to source funding towards heating systems for vulnerable people.  Wendy is one such person as she suffers from the respiratory condition bronchiectasis, which until npower stepped in and created a gas line to her house AND installed a free boiler and central heating throughout her home had been causing her a great deal of pain and ill health due to her cold living conditions.

PR photography can take all shapes and sizes but when you’re hearing first hand about how a company’s scheme has helped someone’s health and quality of life improve drastically it always makes it one of those extra special jobs.  Many other people were involved in helping Wendy and it’s important to mention Warm Zone, Junius S Morgan Benevolent Fund, the Warm Homes Healthy People Fund and two charities for Nurses who all played a massive part in the funding and logistics of bringing heat to Wendy’s home.

Energy companies get a lot of bad press but it’s important that the good they do is also highlighted and I must add how impressed I was when I found out that despite not being an npower customer the company still went ahead with the work, and until today hadn’t even asked if she was with them for her energy supply, they really didn’t care one bit and there was no pressure for her to sign up with them – amazing!

I have to say this was a great shoot to be involved in and I hope Wendy’s and npower’s story travels far and wide, and that other people affected by ill health and fuel poverty are able to benefit from schemes such as this.  It was also great to meet Chi Onwurah and I know her influence and profile will help raise awareness in the local area.
